it is possible that Google will not be beaten by one big competitor. It is possible that they will be pecked at by thousands of tiny start-ups using a new outsourced infrastructure.
But before getting to that punchline, here is my 11 point recap of the search market
Most of these trends point in the direction of search as infrastructure feeding thousands of innovators in niche markets - a long tail approach, in other words. Google will play in this infrastructure game - they already do with Google Custom Search - but it is vendors such as Yahoo, Microsoft and Amazon with equally deep pockets and much more to lose from total Google dominance, who will be the disrupting innovators in this next phase of the search market

1 绪论
Web 给信息检索带来了新的挑战。Web上的信息量快速增长,同时不断有毫无经验的新用户来体验Web这门艺术。人们喜欢用超级链接来网上冲浪,通常都以象 Yahoo这样重要的网页或搜索引擎开始。大家认为List(目录)有效地包含了大家感兴趣的主题,但是它具有主观性,建立和维护的代价高,升级慢,不能包括所有深奥的主题。基于关键词的自动搜索引擎通常返回太多的低质量的匹配。使问题更遭的是,一些广告为了赢得人们的关注想方设法误导自动搜索引擎。
我们建立了一个大型搜索引擎解决了现有系统中的很多问题。应用超文本结构,大大提高了查询质量。我们的系统命名为google,取名自googol的通俗拼法,即10的100次方,这和我们的目标建立一个大型搜索引擎不谋而合。

粗略总结下的话,搜索新闻的缺陷大概体现在以下几个方面:
1,新闻源的过渡分散、部分选取新闻源质量低下。
相比人工编辑模式,搜索能聚合成千上万的新闻源信息。这给新闻聚合也带来了麻烦,过于分散的新闻源显示,让读者缺乏对内容的认可和信任感,甚至体现在源页面上。techmeme的例子告诉我们,选取更重要权威的新闻源(或提高权重度)能增加读者的信赖度,同时避免低质量内容出现。
2,新闻信息的分裂,未按读者阅读需求建立关系。
搜索通过语义分析解决了新闻信息的相关性,但在信息关系的梳理上,变得束手无策。适当的人工干预,说不定能达到不错的效果。比如,此前我一再强调的“新闻 观点”模式,其中,观点和新闻本身又被不断打散在杂志、报纸以及blogosphere等中。
3,新闻的连续性缺失。
我在前不久的“新闻信息的种类、关系和组织”中,已经谈过这一点。搜索聚合新闻,一个很大的弊端就是没有反应新闻信息本身的连续性关系和回放。搜索很方便的提供了读者到达某一条新闻的通道,但却没能力把它们按新闻事件本身组织好。
4,缺乏必要的新闻回放及归档。
5,无限接近的相关性。
注:以上所指搜索新闻,主要是基于搜索平台聚合新闻。

Part 1 walks through some basics of using JavaScript with Silverlight and using the AJAX API for Truveo video search. This is a great way to start from the ground up and really understand how to get started with Silverlight development using scripting.
Part 2 builds upon the first article by showing how to host multiple Silverlight controls on a single page, and highlights scenarios where this would be common and should be considered when building page frameworks. It also demonstrates how to dynamically add elements to the control tree. This article cleans up some of the shortcuts that we took in part 1, and makes the code a little more elegant.
Something else I thought was pretty cool is how easy it was to deploy a Silverlight application to a SharePoint site. You can see a working example on my SharePoint site.
Part 3 hasn't been posted yet, but it focuses on rewriting all of the scripting content using Silverlight 1.1 and managed code. I also introduce a WCF bridge that uses the WebGet attribute for REST style services. This article shows off many of the techniques introduced in various sessions at this year's MIX conference in one concise and easy to read demo.
